There’s a new horror film in the works called Devoted from writer-director Richard J. Bosner, and some of its cast already have significant bonafides in the scary movie market.
Skeet Ulrich (pictured above), for example, is perhaps best known for his role in the first Scream film, while Lin Shaye is a regular face in the Insidious franchise. Other cast members include Mena Suvari, whose best known credits include the very different American Beauty and American Pie, Elizabeth Marvel (House of Cards, Homeland), Alicia Sanz (El Cid), and Nick Stahl (Sin City).
According to Variety, Devoted “follows a woman (Suvari), who takes guardianship of her estranged sister (Marvel), the only survivor of a recent mass cult suicide. Yet her happiness at their reunion soon turns to terror as her sister’s influence turns her and her husband’s (Ulrich) life into a savage nightmare.”
The movie is based on a short called Devotee and will be Bosner’s feature directorial debut. “Devoted weaves my passion for classic horror and the occult into a suspenseful exploration of fear and the extraordinary lengths one will go to protect those they hold dear,” he said in a statement. “This story was brought to life by an exceptional cast, whose talent and dedication add terrifying authenticity.”
While this will be Bosner’s first time in the director’s chair for a feature-length film, he has a long history as a producer for movies such as Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station and Lawrence Michael Levine’s Black Bear.
Devoted is currently in post-production, though there’s no news yet when it will come out.
